What is RINVOQ® (upadacitinib) and how does it work?

RINVOQ® contains the active ingredient upadacitinib, which is a Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitor. RINVOQ® binds to a specific enzyme (JAK), which creates inflammatory signals that are present at increased levels in a range of inflammatory conditions known as autoimmune disease, such as:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Atopic Dermatitis
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Crohn's Disease

What is JAK?

JAK is a family of naturally occurring enzymes that are involved in many processes within the body, including creating inflammatory signals. Increased levels of these signals can result in excessive inflammation and may cause symptoms in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. RINVOQ® helps to reduce inflammation by decreasing the activity of JAK.

RINVOQ® and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

RINVOQ® may help to relieve symptoms of moderate-to-severe RA in adults by reducing pain and protecting against further joint damage. RINVOQ® is fully funded for RA. Special authority criteria apply.
